Breasts are frequently subject to a variety of insecurities, such as when they are too flat, which can cause women psychological distress. However, when they are too large, they can also be a cause of many physical issues. Some women with big breasts may therefore use breast reduction surgery to find a harmonious silhouette and a permanent comfort of life.
Breast reduction: What is it?
Excessive breast volume is called breast hypertrophy in a woman. It may have a variety of reasons. In fact, the breasts may be too big at the end of breast development, during puberty or after pregnancy, or a substantial increase in weight. Mammary ptosis can also be associated with breast hypertrophy. The breasts are sagging due to the weight of the breast.
Breast reduction can be done as soon as the puberty is over. This operation involves decreasing the volume of breasts by extracting a small amount of mammary gland. The breasts are then reassembled and the skin is redraped to ensure proper holding of the breasts and to give shape to the chest.

Breast reduction: how the procedure works
Before operation, the surgeon will meet you for the first time. This helps them to know your history, but also your desires and your problems.
On the day of the operation, breast reduction is performed in a variety of different steps:
- The surgeon starts by marking the area of the operation with a surgical marker.
- Then he removes the mammary gland in excess and puts back the gland of the breasts
- Then, he redraws the skin allowing to curve and retain the new breasts. Your surgeon will also correct a potential breast asymmetry at the same time as the breast reduction procedure.
- Then the surgeon reduces the areola and repositions it. Same thing for the nipples.
- The surgeon continues by suturing the skin with resorbable threads and drains to avoid the appearance of hematoma.
- Finally, the surgeon applies a shaping dressing to the scars.
Breast reduction: anaesthesia, duration, hospitalization
Breast reduction lasts between two and three hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The patient would have to stay in the clinic for one or two nights.
Breast reduction: Before/After
The day after breast reduction, the curve of the new breast is already clearly noticeable. The breasts are reduced, perfectly symmetrical and placed higher. You can easily notice the before/after breast reduction.
After three months, once the edema is resorbed, the breasts become less bulging and the breast tissue softens. The shape and volume of the breasts will be definite six months later. After one year, the scaring process will be complete.
The result is permanent, however, be cautious of excessive weight loss after the operation as it may cause flabby breasts.
When a woman is sound in her mind and at peace with her body, she feels lighter and freer in her movements. She can dress however she likes, play any sport, and her back, shoulders and neck feel absolutely relaxed again. She regains her trust in her personal life and avoids the sometimes inappropriate looks and remarks about her chest.
Pregnancy is possible six months after surgery, but it is advisable to do this operation if the woman does not want more children. The possibility of breastfeeding is not assured, as the milk ducts could have been cut during the operation.
