CoolSculpting® Cold Thinning Method

We all have stubborn fat, which is complicated, if not impossible, to lose with a diet or exercise. CoolSculpting® treats the small excess of fat on the face and body: double-chin, upper back, arms, armpit folds, male gynecomastia, inner thighs, hips, belly, the fold under the buttocks and knees.

This technique is not recommended during pregnancy or for those who are hypersensitive to cold. In no case can it be a substitute for a plan of exercise and diet.

It lasts between one to three hours based on the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed.

The doctor positions a pad of gel to protect the skin and then applies to the treatment area a device combining the effects of suction and cold. When the device pulls the beads in the cooling panels, the patient feels both a strong pinching and an intense cold. Tingling may also occur, but vanishes with the numbness of the treated area.

The temperature, which is continuously controlled by the device, is lowered to a temperature of about -10 degrees in a matter of minutes. CoolSculpting® controls the temperature of the treated area at all times, allowing it to remain intensely cold for the time needed to remove fat.

Cooling causes the natural death of targeted fat cells. Less sensitive to cold, nearby cells and muscles are not affected. Over the next few weeks, the body will begin to remove dead fat cells on its own.

Elimination of fat cells leads to a concentration of the remaining cells and a general decrease in the fat layer.

The patient feels pressure and intense cold during the first few minutes of cooling. That impression disappears quickly. Installed comfortably, the patient can listen to music, read, check e-mails or nap during treatment.

The doctor's assistant regularly checks that the treatment is going well during the session. Applicators have different shapes and sizes to adapt to the natural curves of the body and to treat large areas at once.

After CoolSculpting®, the patient can resume daily activities immediately. The treated area will be red and mildly sensitive for a few hours. Some hematomas may appear after the aspiration of the skin, but they disappear after a few days. Patients feel aches for 7 to 10 days.

CoolSculpting® can help to lose between 30 and 45 percent of the fat in each session. For some patients, one treatment is sufficient to achieve the goal they are aiming for. Others decide to renew their sessions in order to lose even more fat.

The result is noticeable after two to three months, when the fat released by the cold-damaged adipocytes is slowly and naturally removed by the lymphatic system and assimilated by the liver.

The body will still get rid of fat cells for up to 4 to 6 months after the treatment.

A healthy lifestyle helps to sustain the benefits of CoolSculpting®. Patients are more likely to take care of themselves, monitor their diet and exercise frequently after treatment. As long as the weight remains stable, long-term results will be maintained.

The doctor will draw up a personalized treatment plan for each patient, indicating the type and number of applicators based on the area to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed.

Duration of a session includes:

• The dressing and undressing.
• Taking measurements and photographs.
• The set up of the patient.
• Time of treatment (duration of a cycle and massage between two cycles).

Two machines are readily accessible which allow to halve the total time necessary for the same treatment.

During the same session, it is possible to combine several zones. In this situation, the quotes are established by the physician during the consultation.

At each additional session, another 30 to 45 percent of the fat is lost by the patient. In order to maximize the result, a second session or even a third session may be provided by the doctor in the treatment plan.
