Main drug in aesthetic medicine, Botox ® is the registered trademark of botulinum toxin A, becoming almost a generic term. Botox forehead injection is intended to remove forehead wrinkles by smoothing the skin without surgery. The ability of the aesthetic doctor is to respect the indications, through an impeccable technical process that smoothes the wrinkles but not the expressions, for a natural result.
How does botox injection work on your forehead?
The skin muscles, also called skincier muscles, work on the face to convey our emotions. They are situated between the skin and the bony reliefs, and are wrapped in a connective tunic (superficial musculo aponeurotic system or SMAS).
Like the skin, this fascia will lose its elasticity and tone with age.
The frontal muscle stretches from the base of the skull (occiput) to the orbit (occipito-frontal muscle). Since it is a digastric muscle, the anterior part, which stretches from the anterior hairline to the eyebrows and orbicular muscles, is mainly referred to as the frontal muscle. This temporal muscle is engaged in the lifting of the eyebrows, following an influx of the temporal nerve from the facial motor nerve.
Tissue aging impacts the skin's dermis as much as the fascia of SMAS. Loss of elasticity implies that the contraction of the front muscle results in a persistent fold because the tissues are no longer flexible and elastic enough. These horizontal wrinkles or front wrinkles pertain to dynamic wrinkles (excessive muscle contraction) or expression wrinkles. Forehead wrinkles give your face a worried, tired or harsh look, which can negatively affect your socio-professional or personal life.
This contraction of muscle fibers is suppressed by the injection of botulinum toxin in the forehead. Botulinum toxin A blocks the action of the synapse neurotransmitter between the nerve and the muscle by competitive inhibition. As the frontal muscle is no longer triggered its fibers no longer contract and they relax (myo-relaxing effect also called flaccid paralysis). Muscle and skin relax, regaining a smooth appearance.
Indications: rejuvenating with forehead Botox ® injection
Botox® injection is the preferred solution to correct dynamic forehead wrinkles that occur on the forehead because the forehead muscle is too stiff. The goal may be to erase negative emotions from the upper face (severity, anxiety, fatigue...) or simply a rejuvenating effect for esthetic purposes.
For less pronounced forehead wrinkles coupled with a loss of volume, an injection of hyaluronic acid may be considered. This filling product recreates volume by plumping the skin, resulting in a small lifting action on the skin.
A forehead botox injection session
This injection session is taking place in a sterile medical facility at the Clinique des Champs-Élysées in Dubai. It's fast (10 to 20 minutes) and the patient returns to daily activities without social eviction as soon as the session is over.
To erase the wrinkles of the forehead, your doctor will be very careful to identify the point of entry for the injection.
He will aim at the upper region of the muscle by performing the intramuscular injection 3 cm from the bony edge of the eye socket, otherwise there is a threat of eyebrow ptosis.
He often performs between three and five injection points, to provide an even result, and if needed, he takes into account any initial asymmetry of the eyebrows.
Forehead Botox injection results
The effect is never instant. Botulinum toxin gradually blocks acetylcholine receptors and progressively relaxes the front muscles.
In 4 to 10 days on average, your forehead skin reclaims its youthfulness with a smooth appearance. You look younger, more rested, less worried, more toned with an effect that lasts up to six months.
In rare cases, the eyebrow to become too lifted, following a hyper contraction of the external frontal muscle. This is known as the Mephisto effect. After the third week, it's easy to correct with a touch-up.
