Laser Hair Removal: Getting Rid of Hair

Laser hair removal is a permanent hair removal method. Very effective, this treatment is almost painless and can eliminate about 90% of the hair.

Only hair containing enough melanin can be removed for laser hair removal. It is therefore impossible to treat red, blond or white hair. The light beam is attracted by the melanin contained in the hair, which transforms the energy of the laser into heat and kill the bulb and follicle.

All phototypes can be processed so that you can practice laser hair removal on black, dark or tanned skin.

In women, laser hair removal concerns mainly the face (forehead, cheekbones, lips, etc.), bikini, legs or armpits and arms. The area of concern for men is the face (beard, neck, etc.) but also the torso and the back.

The number of sessions varies based on the hair and the area to be treated for both men and women.

In humans, for example, it is necessary to count between 8 to 10 sessions of about 10 to 15 minutes for underarm laser hair removal. In women, however, the same procedure takes 6 to 8 sessions lasting approximately 10 minutes.

Before any laser hair removal, the practitioner will see you during the first consultation, which will enable him to know your ancestry and to eliminate some contraindications that might prevent you from having this procedure. It's also an opportunity for him to evaluate your skin, your hair, but also your phototype (light skin, dark or tan ...).

On the day of the procedure, the doctor will begin by examining your skin for any lesions or herpes that might delay the procedure. If he identifies that the area to be treated has not been shaved beforehand, he may shave the area himself.

The practitioner gives you protective glasses that you must wear during treatment to protect your eyes. The practitioner then marks the treatment area with a white pencil and sets the laser to fit your skin and hair type. He then scans the area with the device.

At the end of the procedure, the specialist applies a moisturizer to the shaved area to soothe the skin and reduce the pain.

After each session of laser hair removal, the growth is slower and slower and the remaining hair is thinner. In order to disappear completely, the hair must be reached at its root, i.e. at the bulb level. Therefore, the hair can only be removed if it is removed during the growth phase, because it is only then that there is contact between the bulb and the hair follicle.

Approximately 90 percent of the hair does not grow back at the end of treatment. An annual maintenance session is then suggested to eliminate small re-growths.
