Breast Augmentation: Improving Breast Volume

Breast augmentation is intended for women with atrophy, breast asymmetry or breast absence to increase breast size. This breast malformation can be either congenital and therefore present as soon as the breast develops in adolescence, or as a result of hormonal changes and substantial weight loss.

It is possible to do breast augmentation in two distinct ways:

• Breast prosthesis, consisting of breast implants placed on the breasts to provide them with volume and shape.
• Breast lipofilling allows you to inject fat from your body into your chest for re-injection. This method can be done at the same time as liposuction and allows you to have a natural breast that is consistent with your figure.

Your surgeon will see you for an initial consultation prior to surgery. This is an opportunity for the surgeon to get to know the history of your past, but also to examine your chest to decide on the best method to adopt.

If your doctor chooses to increase the volume of your breasts by placing breast implants:

If he chooses to perform a lipofilling to increase the volume of your breasts, however:

First, he makes a 4 to 5 mm incision that will allow him to insert the prostheses. These incisions are then hidden around the nipples or in the armpits, at the level of the breast fold line,

He then creates a space for the breast prostheses to be inserted. These are then placed between the pectoral muscle and the mammary gland, one behind the pectoral muscle or one behind the pectoral muscle and one below the mammary gland.

-After the procedure, the doctor closes up the incisions and places a modelling bandage on the scars

Although, if he decides to perform lipofilling to increase the volume of your breasts:

First, he takes some fat from your thighs, from your saddlebags, or from your abdomen.

-Depending on the doctor, he will either directly re-inject fat which had been removed or place the fat cells in a centrifuge to get rid of their impurities. A large quantity of fat cells must be preserved in all cases.

He will then inject microbeads of fat into the fat cells. This method makes it possible for the fat to be in contact with the capillaries and to have access to the nutrients and oxygen they need to survive.

Breast augmentation utilizing breast prosthesis lasts about one hour and is performed under general anaesthetic. The patient then stays at the clinic for one night and leaves the following day.

The operation can last between one hour and two hours when performing lipofilling. The operation is then performed under local anaesthetic and the patient can return home the same day.

The results of breast augmentation, whether by lipofilling or breast prosthesis placement, are immediately apparent. However, in the particular instance of breast implants, the final results will be noticeable after 2 or 3 months, when the swelling clears up and the bruising fades.
The more elastic your skin will be, the better the result. Ultimately, your chest will experience the effects of time and gravity, like a natural breast.

For lipofilling, it takes about six months to evaluate the final results of the operation.

In both instances, after breast augmentation, your breast will be reshaped and replenished. The outcomes will be natural and consistent with your figure.
