Lifting fixes loose skin on the face and body. The surgeon removes the skin and then tightens it by reducing excess skin.
Causes of skin sagging
The skin can be affected primarily by natural ageing, but also by changes in the body following pregnancy or significant weight loss. In fact, the skin is an elastic organ that is able to stretch and shrink.
Age-related skin sagging
Over time, the collagen and elastin fibers that regenerate skin cells have become weak. The dermis is thinner, the skin lacks elasticity and becomes less firm. The sagging begins in the muscles, followed by the skin, resulting in excess of loose folds.
Sagging skin after pregnancy
A few months after giving birth, a woman may have noticed that her weight and body had changed. Stretched for nine months then contracted after birth, the skin progressively resumes its firmness but keep traces may remain especially on the breast and belly. The breasts lose their firmness and size after pregnancy, particularly if the woman is breastfeeding. Like the breast, the firmness of the belly is affected by pregnancy. The skin is looser and it's challenging to get a stomach as flat as it was before pregnancy.
Excess skin after drastic weight loss
When extra weight is present, the skin stretches to suit the new silhouette. When losing weight, the opposite occurs, the surface of the skin narrows. If the amount of kilos lost is substantial, there can be excess skin around the body.
When excess skin is significant, the only solution is to lift it. If excess fat is present, you must first get a liposuction before continuing with the actual lifting.
Face and neck lifting
The lifting is most often performed with the face as a whole. Exclusive neck lift is rare since it is most often associated with a facelift. Drooping eyelids may be handled separately from the rest of the body.
Cervico-facial lifting
The cervicofacial lifting facilitates rejuvenation with a natural effect. The aim of the operation is to restore the different anatomical structures of the body (skin, muscles).
Depending on the level of skin looseness, we offer:
Lifting of the upper eyelids
- Mini-lifting facial: This lifting is ideal for those who have a beginning of loosening of the contour of the face and neck. Recovery is quicker than a classic lifting
- Total face and neck lifting: The doctor treats the whole face (forehead, temples and eyebrows, cheeks, jowls, oval) and neck.
- Subcutaneous lifting: it only treats the skin without any deep intervention. This lifting is suggested for people who have a very large excess of skin.
- Sub muscular lifting: tightens the layer of muscle and the skin.
- The eyelid lifting fixes sagging skin, when the upper eyelids start to show signs of weakness and drop on the eye forming a cap shape, with a falling eyebrow tail. Loose skin also impacts eyelid, but is less noticeable.
Breast lifting
The breastlifting firms a breast defined by a distension of the skin supporting the breast and related with a variable glandular and fat melt based on the woman.
It is usual to combine breast lifting with other breast procedures: as you get older, the volume of the mammary gland reduces and the skin becomes weakened. In the latter case, a breast prosthesis is generally associated with a breast lift.
If the sagging of the breasts is induced by an excessive volume of the breasts, the breast reduction is performed in addition to the breast lifting.
Body lifting
Excessive skin can be removed in a particular area of the body or the whole body. Then we're talking about the body lift.
Brachioplasty (arm)
An arm lift tightens the inner side of the arm. In the forties, the skin of the arms begins to weaken in women, leaving the skin loose. This is accentuated by a substantial weight loss. Quite often, the main motivation of a procedure is to be able to reveal the arms without being ashamed.
Abdominoplasty
Belly lift eliminates excess skin that forms an unflattering flap, usually above the pubis, even on the thighs.
Skin slackening (abdominal apron) can be associated with excess fat or congenital abdominal muscle spacing or cesarean section. Incidentally, the lifting of the belly also handles many stretch marks, even scars.
Cruroplasty (thighs)
A lifting of the thighs tightens the skin of the upper, internal area of the buttocks.
The loosening of the skin of the thighs is cause by natural aging or dramatic weight loss. The surgeon takes into account the physiology of the thighs, including the significance of fat overload, the quality of the skin and the tone of the muscles.
Buttocks lifting
The buttock lifting eliminates excess skin and fat to enhance the contour of the waist, hips and buttocks.
As a result of ageing, after childbirth or weight loss, the buttocks can sag. This loss of muscles and the underlying adipose tissue eliminates the rounded shape of the buttocks. This leads to lack of volume in the upper part of the buttocks and an excess volume in the lower part of the buttocks.
