Breast Prosthesis

Often called "implants" these prostheses have a round, curved shape. It's a silicone envelope holding an artificial liquid. The contents of the prosthesis can be either silicone gel or physiological saline (more liquid).

The surgeon makes an incision about 4 cm left and right of the chest to insert the breast prosthesis at the desired spot.

The incision may be made in various locations, depending on the result sought: under the breast furrow, through or around the nipple, or in the hollow of each armpit. For a duration of one year, the scar is invisible.

The positioning of the prosthesis in the breast, as defined above, can differ according to the indications of the surgeon.

After the procedure, the prescription of analgesics decreases the discomfort in patients. The oedema lasts three weeks.
A week of rest and very restricted physical activity (prohibition of carrying or driving, etc.) are suggested. Sports activities can only be resumed after two months.

The results obtained after breast prosthesis are guaranteed, visible and final. You will already see an improvement in the volume of your new chest the day after the surgery.

The positioning of breast prostheses includes a one-night hospital stay in the facility. This is a major surgical procedure which is done only under general anesthesia. The length of the procedure is approximately 1h. Medical teams will keep you under observation for 1 night to ensure your well-being.

The result of the prosthesis of the breast is instant. The next day, the patient will see a new volume in her chest. However, it would be appropriate to wait for the final result to be assessed. In fact, the oedema formed as a result of the procedure will disappear entirely after only 3 months. In addition, the breasts progressively soften after implants have been placed.

The insertion of prosthesis does not reduce the sensitivity of the nipples. The patient can continue to breast-feed, take a flight, sleep on the stomach, or play sports.

The result is not a permanent one. A breast prosthesis lasts for about 20 years. However, the prosthesis will need to be changed only in the event of wear or complication.
