What is hyaluronic acid ?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally the primary component of the fundamental substance of the dermis, which nourishes and supports the epidermis. It is a colloid gel, defined by a very strong water affinity, called a molecular sponge. It is therefore the one that gives the skin its smoothness, hydration and volume.

A young person in good health synthesizes 5 grams per day, but this production ends up losing quality and quantity as we age: this is how our skin loses its volume, causing sagging of the face and static wrinkles by "fracturing" the epidermis, which is no longer supported These are the main effects of aging the skin.

Which hyaluronic acid should be chosen for face injections?

Like any macromolecule, hyaluronic acid can comprise a varied number of units, defining its molecular weight. The higher it is, the more volumizing the hyaluronic acid, the longer it takes to be resorbed and thus to have a lasting effect. On the other hand, hyaluronic acid, which is too volumizing, cannot spread through the skin because it is too large: it usually needs a fairly deep intradermal injection.

A very micronized and not very volumizing small hyaluronic acid, such as Skinbooster®, is therefore ideal for providing volume to the lips while maintaining a natural look or rehydrating the skin.

Moderately cross-linked hyaluronic acid (Restylane®) is more recommended to fill most static wrinkles in the lower third of the face, smoothing them out.
A typical example of highly volumizing hyaluronic acid is Restylane Lyft-Perlane ®, which is perfect for restoring volume to the chin or filling a deep nasolabial fold.
