Nymphoplasty (or labioplasty) is an intimate surgery that fixes the esthetic defect of the small and large vaginal lips.
Why: Correcting the appearance of vaginal lips
If a woman wishes to fix the shape and/or size of her vaginal lips, she has to resort to nymphoplasty.
Labial hypertrophy
Vaginal lips can be too thick due to excess fat or to excess skin. In reality, demand primarily concerns small lips (nymphs) due to the following:
- An unflattering growth: The small lips that come out of the cleft of the vulva are visually troubling because of their shape, colour or appearance.
- Asymmetric lips: The small lips are of irregular size.
Hypotrophy or lip atrophy
If the vaginal lips are too small (hypotrophy) or non-existent (atrophy), they can be inflated to restore volume.
Motivations are, in order of importance to the esthetic element, the difficulty of dressing up, discomfort when playing sports, and discomfort, even pain, during sexual intercourse.

How the procedure of labioplasty works
Labioplastic surgery is conducted under local anaesthesia without hospitalization and is between thirty and forty-five minutes in duration.
The reduction of the small lips
The surgeon removes the superficial layer of the labial mucosa while maintaining the initial shape of the small lips. There are two possible techniques:
Longitudinal nymphoplasty
As excess skin extends over the entire length of the lip, the practitioner incises from top to bottom, and uses a buried suture procedure to make the scar invisible. This technique allows a significant quantity of excess lip to be removed.
Triangular nymphoplasty
When the excess skin is found in a particular area, the surgeon removes the triangle of the skin either from the center of the small lip or from the back of the lip. The scar is concealed in the folds between the small and the broad lips.
Reduction of the big lips
The big lips may be too thick
- In case of excess fat: we perform a small liposuction
- In case of excess skin: the excess skin is removed.
Augumentation of small and big lips
If the vaginal lips are too small or nonexistent, labioplasty is conducted through lipofilling with fat taken from the patient to regain volume.
Effects of labioplasty
The nymphoplasty procedure is not very painful. Absorbable threads vanish spontaneously after 10 to 15 days. Preferably wear skirt instead of pants for the first few days to prevent pain when walking. In order to prevent problems of infection, the patient must closely monitor her personal hygiene. Sexual intercourse may be resumed after 20 days or so.
Results
The result is readily visible and will be permanent after three months, when the lips have already regained flexibility. It is very natural looking since the surgeon avoids over correcting and respects the anatomy of the patient. They are especially cautious to maintain a protective edge on the small lips to protect the opening of the vagina from potential infections.
