Sculptra® injections

Sculptra® is a product based on L-polylactic acid, a molecule that promotes the production of collagen and restores volume to hollowed-out faces.

What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra is an injectable medical product consisting of 150 mg of L-polylactic acid in the alpha-hydroxy or fruit acid family, 90 mg of sodium carboxymethylcellulose and 127.5 mg of non-pyrogenic mannitol.

It is a bio-stimulator that makes a progressive thickening of the dermis. It restores volume, not by filling, but by natural activation of fibroblasts, connective tissue cells and collagen.

Sculptra® is a powder which must be rehydrated with water before injecting (PPI) before the use by the physician.

Treatment: Restoring volume to the face

Sculptra® is used in hollowed out areas from the ages of 40 and 50 years due to loss of fat: temples, valley of tears, cheekbones, lips, jaw, etc. and for filling in bitterness folds or nasolabial folds.

Sculptra is not suitable where the skin is too thin such as the eye area, the perioral area, the forehead or crow's feet.

Course of a session

The physician injects a mix of water and Sculptra® into the deep dermis, subcutaneous layer, or directly into the bone. He treats the face as a whole in a three-dimensional design to redistribute the volumes and create a complete facelift.

The injections are almost not painful. If the patient wishes, the physician can perform local anaesthesia to make the session more comfortable.

Treatment requires 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart. The session lasts between 20 and 30 minutes. Promptly after the session, the volume of the injection immediately fills the hollow areas. After the absorption of the water in the product, a minor depression may occur until the tissues are eventually restructured as the patient starts to develop their own collagen.

The side effects of the injections

Patients can resume their daily activities directly after the session. Small redness, oedema or swelling may occur after injections, but will disappear after 1 to 2 weeks.

After injections, the skin should be massaged twice a day for 7 days in order to maximize the effects and ensure a uniform delivery of the product.

Results

Sculptra® gives the face a youthful look. Collagen is activated, volumes are restored, and the face reclaims the balance it had lost with a healthy glow over a period of time. The result will last 2 to 3 years.
