The nipples are returned to their normal position after a minor breast surgery that brings out the inverted nipples.
Treatment: inverted or collapsed nipples
The inverted nipples are linked to congenital malformations. The milk ducts are too small, and the nipple is concealed within the breast. The nipple is completely invisible or barely visible.
Umbilicated nipples
More occasionally, nipple invagination can also happen after breast plastic surgery or reduction and after breast abscess.
The method for fixing inverted nipples
The procedure is conducted under local anesthesia during an outpatient stay and lasts up to 45 minutes.
The surgeon creates a small incision of two to three millimeters at the base of the nipple and cuts off the milk ducts to clear the nipple.
Recovery
Postoperative pain is mild. There is a mild edema that disappears after 10 days and a drop in the sensitivity of the nipple after a few weeks.
It is possible to resume daily activity after two days.
Unless the milk ducts recover after surgery, later breastfeeding may not be feasible.
Results: An externalization of the nipple
The result is instantly visible, but it is appropriate to wait two to three months for the final shape of the areola.
